Program Purpose

The Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program (SPMGP) supports projects that strengthen and enhance the production and marketing of sheep and sheep products. The program advances the competitiveness, sustainability, and long-term viability of the U.S. sheep industry by supporting projects that improve infrastructure, business and resource development, workforce and leadership development, market expansion, and innovative approaches to addressing industry needs.

The program seeks to develop practical, industry-driven solutions that provide measurable benefits to sheep producers while encouraging collaboration among national, regional, and local organizations. Through competitive subawards and recipient-led activities, the program promotes innovation, technical assistance, education, marketing, and strategic investments that improve production capacity, supply chain resilience, and market opportunities across the sheep industry.

Projects funded under this program are expected to support one or more of the following objectives:

  1. Strengthen sheep production capacity and improve marketing opportunities.
  2. Expand technical assistance, education, and workforce development for sheep producers.
  3. Support innovation, business development, and value-added product development.
  4. Improve infrastructure and supply chain efficiency.
  5. Enhance animal health, risk management, and industry resilience.
  6. Foster collaboration among industry stakeholders while reducing duplication of effort.
