Japan–Vietnam Joint Call for Proposals

The call for applications for FY2026 has been closed.
The next application schedule and fields will be updated as soon as they are decided.

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), in order to promote international research interaction and exchange among researchers, jointly call proposals for Japan‒Vietnam collaborative research projects. Please check the details of the open call below. For information on the past awarded projects, please refer to the "Projects" page.

The 2nd Call: Japan–Vietnam Joint Call for Proposals on "Semiconductors"

In the second call for proposals, following the first, we will continue to support international collaborative research in the field of "semiconductors" between researchers in Japan and Vietnam. A joint call for collaborative research projects is scheduled as outlined below. Please note that this call also includes support for fostering Vietnamese early career researcher (ECR) candidates*. For details, please refer to the application guidelines.

*Researchers' Capacity Building: JST will allocate and provide support for researchers' capacity building--accommodation costs (equivalent to living expenses) and research expenses--up to a maximum of 3.9 million yen per person per year, to Vietnamese ECR candidates who aim to obtain the doctoral degree while engaging in international collaborative research.

Please refer to the MST webpage and contact to the person in charge of MST (the contact information is described on the guidelines) for the Vietnam-side applications.

Notice

  • Section 2.4.2 of the Application guidelines (appendix for Japan-side PIs) was updated to set the standard duration of four-year doctoral programs in medicine-related fields at four years (April 24, 2026).
  • As part of the "Eligibilities for MST support" requirements, an Agreement between the institutions to which both principal investigators (PIs) belong is required. This Agreement must specify the main tasks of both parties; provisional execution plan; rules for sharing of research result; and contributed resources of both parties, in which, the Japan-side PI's contribution is exchangeable. These contributed resources include financial resources, workforce, facilities and other necessary resources. Please confirm the specific details through the PI on the Vietnam side and proceed with preparations for the early conclusion of the Agreement.
This requirement is stated in Article 11.5 of Decree, which the Vietnamese researchers must refer to. No. 267/2025/ND-CP (DECREE, English translation)

How to Apply

Please complete the joint application forms above and submit them via e-Rad (The Cross-ministerial R&D Management System). This system is the designated platform for Japan-side PIs to submit their forms.

  • Both applicants, Japan-side and Vietnam-side PIs, must prepare an identical proposal, which they must then submit to JST from the Japan-side PI and to MST from the Vietnam-side PI, respectively.
  • The Japan-side PI must also submit another Japanese application form (appendix for Japan-side PIs).
  • Both PIs must ensure no differences in the content of the proposals submitted to JST and MST. Following the joint application forms above and submitting all required documents to both JST and MST by the deadline are crucial, as failure to do so will result in the proposal being rejected. Please also be aware of both countries' "Eligibility" section in the guidelines.

Notifications

  • As part of the "Eligibility for MST support" requirements, an Agreement between the institutions to which both principal investigators belong is required. Please confirm preparations for the early conclusion of this Agreement through the principal investigator on the counterpart side. Note that PI's affiliation name must match the affiliation of the signatory in the agreement.
  • The "Confirmation Form (確認書 in the Japanese application form (appendix for Japan-side PIs))" must be stamped by the head of the institution. Please note that in the case of a university/college, it is the president, not the dean. There is no need to mail the original. If you omit the official seal, please follow the prescribed procedure at your institution before submitting the form.
  • The Japan-side researchers are not allowed to propose more than one proposal as a PI in this Joint Call for Proposals; the Co-PI is not restricted in this respect, and is not prevented from proposing one proposal as a PI and participating in other proposals as a Co-PI. In such cases, measures might be taken to avoid excessive concentration. For details, please refer to Application guidelines(appendix for Japan-side PIs, 公募要領 別紙).
  • Japan-side PIs must have completed a research ethics training program at their institution and then declare the completion of the program to JST by the deadline of the call for proposals. Unless applicants complete a research ethics training program, their application will be deemed ineligible for funding. For details, please refer to the application guidelines (appendix for Japan-side PIs).
